Giving back one percent for the planet

OPP_HORZ_SPOTFlip over one of our Dali Bar energy bars and you might notice a “1% for the Planet” logo printed on the back of the wrapper. In fact, if you commonly patronize companies that are concerned about the environment and sustainability, you may have come across this logo more and more frequently in recent years.

So what does it mean when you find a 1% for the Planet logo on a product?

In 2002, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, created a platform for businesses to directly contribute to conservation projects. 1% for the Planet was based on the idea, “that health and wellness come from the environment, that business is responsible for positive change and that we can leave this big blue planet better than we found it.”

1% for the Planet now has more than 1,200 member companies in 48 countries giving 1% of their sales to more than 3,300 different non-profits. To date, the organization has paid for more than $100 million to conservation projects all over the world.

Last year, Dali Bar was proud to become one of China’s first corporate 1% for the Planet partners. We firmly believe that businesses have a responsibility to do what they can to protect the planet and we want our customers to know that every one of their purchases has the power to make a difference.

We have devoted our one percent from last year to Shanshui, an organization that works in Yunnan’s Lancang River basin. This year we are excited to support Shanshui as they continue to have a positive impact on the planet.

Have you considered enrolling your company in 1% for the Planet and sending a signal to your customers that your brand cares about giving back and making a difference?
